Bon Iver - “Come Talk to Me” 

It’s Record Store Day! For anyone who doesn’t know, this means exclusive LPs, merch, and in-store performances at indie record stores all over the world. Bon Iver and Peter Gabriel’s split 7” releases today. Bon Iver covered Gabriel’s “Come Talk to Me”, and Gabriel covered “Flume”. I bought Bon Iver’s cover yesterday, and it blew me away. Normally, I’m not a fan of covers, but this one is excellent! 

I’m currently designing ads for Schoolkids Records in my graphic’s class, and since Record Store Day was coming up, I decided to design a promo piece for the event inspired by an ingenious direct mail piece. GGRP designed a cardboard record player that actually works! My piece isn’t done yet, but I redesigned the cover to promote a super secret performance by the mystery band displayed. You’d have to be living under a mainstream rock to not guess who it is! I thought it was only fitting given that they’re Athens’ natives.
