“At the end of the day, the best PR and advertising in the world can not compete with that live video stream of that oil coming out of the bottom of the sea,” Mr. Gidez said. “PR, advertising, community affairs, social media and communications is not going to solve the problem.” 

Ad Age released an article last week concerning BP’s new $50 million ad campaign. The ads state in one way or another that BP “will get it done” and “make this right”, but as Carreen Winters has pointed out, the ads are essentially meaningless at this point in time. Until BP cleans up the mess its made, which could take years, no one’s going to buy BP’s latest ad messages. When will people realize that advertising won’t solve your problems if, frankly, your shit stinks.
