Andrew Belle - “In My Veins”

“Oh, you’re in my veins, and I cannot get you out.”

I was recently turned onto Andrew Belle by my musical soulmate and found that I just missed his show in Atlanta because I was on vacation. Ah! If Greg Laswell had a younger brother, Belle would be him. He sounds like a cross between Brett Dennen and Greg Laswell. Belle’s newest album, The Ladder, also reminds me of Laswell’s new album, Take a Bow. There’s a lot of love and heartbreak backed with acoustics. Belle nailed the lyrics on his new album. I love it. With his soft, soulful voice and melancholy lyrics, Belle makes my heart ache.

Originally, “In My Veins” was written for The Ladder but wound up not making it on the record. The lyrics to this song are so sad and raw. I love the imagery Belle conveys throughout the song not only through the lyrics, but also, through the backing vocals and instrumental arrangements. It’s a song for a rainy day.

Download a free copy of Belle’s acoustic performance at the Hotel Cafe here. It’s really great, and the banter between songs is entertaining.
